Discover the Hohenheim Gardens in a Playful Way! [06.03.25]
How can we inspire children to connect with nature and sustainability?Five master's students from the University of Hohenheim have taken on this challenge by developing an interactive nature trail for the Hohenheim Gardens!
As part of the course “Enacting Local Transformation in the Agri-Food System,” the international student team—Saskia Regorius, Hamzar Tariq, Besufikad Getnet, Natalia Katsarou, and Sophia Fenninger—created an engaging experience designed for kindergarten and elementary school children. The goal? To make learning about agriculture, food systems, and environmental conservation fun and hands-on!
Join the Test Run on March 8 & 9!
Where: Hohenheim Gardens
When: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
What to Expect:
- Children will take on roles such as herb detectives or honeybees searching for pollen.
- Interactive games and activities focused on plants, soils, insects, and water.
- Self-guided tour: families receive maps and game instructions at different stations.
This project aims to raise awareness of where our food comes from and encourage both children and adults to think more about sustainability. “We wanted to create an activity that is not only fun but also sparks curiosity about our environment,” explains Saskia Regorius, a master's student in agricultural sciences.
The nature trail is designed to be self-explanatory and accessible to all visitors, ensuring it can continue to be used even after the test event.
Want to experience the nature trail? Visit the Hohenheim Gardens on March 8th or 9th—no registration needed!
This initiative is part of the TREE Transformation (Experience and Learn) project, funded by the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education.
