Opening Our Doors: Connecting with the Community at Dies Academicus and Open Day 2026 [16.07.26]
Through research, teaching and interactive activities, our department welcomed colleagues, students, families and visitors to explore sustainable food systems and engage in conversations about hopeful futures.
On 3 and 4 July, the Department of Sustainable Use of Natural Resources took part in Dies Academicus and the University of Hohenheim's Open Day, joining departments and student initiatives from across the university in welcoming visitors to campus.
Over the two days, our stand provided an opportunity to showcase both our teaching and research activities. Visitors learned about the Transformation Management for Sustainable Agri-Food Systems master's programme, explored ongoing research through the Bright Futures and Agroecology4Climate projects, and spoke with department members about the work taking place across our research and teaching areas.
Beyond sharing information, we wanted to create a space where visitors could actively engage with ideas around sustainability and the future. Together with the Sustainability Working Group (AKN), we offered several interactive activities that encouraged creativity and conversation. Visitors of all ages designed their own sustainability-themed buttons, created collages inspired by their visions for the future, and reflected on questions displayed through the "Chairs of Hope", a creative installation made from repurposed chairs carrying messages of hope and resilience.
Throughout the event, our stand welcomed a wide variety of visitors. Dies Academicus provided an opportunity to connect with colleagues, students and members of the university community, while Open Day brought prospective students, families and members of the public who were interested in learning more about studying, researching and engaging with sustainability at the University of Hohenheim.
The two days were filled with thoughtful questions, inspiring conversations and many creative contributions from visitors. We sincerely thank everyone who stopped by our stand, participated in the activities and shared their ideas with us. Our thanks also go to all department members and volunteers whose enthusiasm and support helped make the event such an enjoyable and successful experience.
