More local pulses on your plate! [12.08.24]
Under this motto, the kick-off event for "Stuttgart Bean Day" took place on June 21, 2024 in the LBBW staff restaurant at Stuttgart's main railway station.Guests included various stakeholders from the food system - including political representation by Ministerial Director Isabel Kling, wholesalers, farmers and kitchen managers.
With the "Stuttgart Bean Day", the Stuttgart CityRegion Food Council aims to bring more local pulses into the menus of Stuttgart's communal catering. A win-win situation in many respects: canteen kitchens and canteens, their diners, farmers and wholesalers, as well as the environment, climate and soil should all benefit. The project is funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection and the state capital Stuttgart.
In a relaxed atmosphere, the participants were able to exchange ideas and network in a speed dating session and were provided with delicious legume dishes from the BW Bank canteen. In addition, a Hohenheim student of nutritional sciences presented legume snacks that she had created as part of a study module. The bean chocolate hummus was particularly impressive and all in all there is no doubt: pulses are colorful, delicious and extremely versatile.
All in all, a successful event that will be followed by others.
