Learning from Farmers: Anna-Lea Ortmann Visits the Department  [19.06.26]

During a recent visit, Anna-Lea Ortmann shared her research on peer-to-peer learning, agroforestry and climate adaptation.

From 15–18 June, we welcomed Anna-Lea Ortmann, a PhD researcher from Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, to the Department of Sustainable Use of Natural Resources.

During her visit, Anna-Lea presented her research on peer-to-peer learning in agroforestry systems. Her work examines how farmers exchange knowledge and experiences, and how these learning processes can influence the adoption of agroforestry practices and support climate adaptation in agriculture.

Drawing on transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches, her research explores how knowledge moves between farmers, practitioners and researchers, and how these exchanges contribute to more resilient farming systems. Rather than focusing only on technical innovations, her work highlights the importance of relationships, practical experience and learning through interaction.

Alongside her colloquium presentation, the visit provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on agroforestry, climate resilience and sustainability transitions with researchers from the department. It also offered a chance to learn about ongoing research activities at Hohenheim and discuss common interests across different research contexts.

We thank Anna-Lea for visiting the department and for sharing her research and perspectives with our research community.
