Department Researchers Present Agroforestry Research at EURAF 2026 [25.06.26]
Researchers from the Department of Sustainable Use of Natural Resources contributed to EURAF 2026, sharing research on knowledge exchange, climate resilience, and innovative agroforestry systems.
Members of the Department of Sustainable Use of Natural Resources recently participated in the 8th European Agroforestry Conference (EURAF 2026), presenting research that explored the many dimensions of agroforestry, from peer-learning among practitioners and climate resilience to biodiversity and sustainable land-use design.
Anna-Lea Ortmann presented her work on the role of peer-to-peer learning in supporting agroforestry adoption. Drawing on research from the Agroforestry Living Lab in the Lower Rhine region, her work explores how practical exchange between land users, regular on-farm visits and collaborative learning environments can encourage the uptake of agroforestry and support climate adaptation.
Jakob Hörl presented a systematic review on vitiforestry, the integration of trees and shrubs into vineyards. His research synthesizes existing scientific evidence on how trees can contribute to biodiversity, microclimate regulation, soil conservation and climate resilience in viticultural systems, while also identifying knowledge gaps that can inform future research and practice.
Julia Fritzsche presented research examining how agroforestry can contribute to agroecology and resilience in Brandenburg, Germany. Combining field and farm level data, her work investigates how simple and diversified agroforestry systems support resilient farming and the broader agricultural transformation.
Beyond the presentations, participants joined field excursions showcasing a range of agroforestry systems in practice, creating further opportunities to exchange ideas with researchers and practitioners from across Europe.
