FOSTER Summer School  [17.06.25]

The third FOSTER Summer School took place over four thoughtful and full days in Sopron, Hungary, hosted by Pannonian Local Products (Pannon Helyi Termék, pannonhelyitermek.hu/).

Here’s an update from our FOSTER team — Julia Thompson, Anna Struth, and Arezou Babajani:

On Day 1, after a morning of status updates from all project members and work packages, we boarded a bus and spent the afternoon visiting local producers (and trying some local products, of course).

Day 2 was shaped by each FOSTER case study, with sessions exploring different angles of food system transformation — from policy and governance to engagement and trust.

On Day 3, we took time to reflect on the summer school as a whole and began sketching ideas for next year’s final edition, which will take place in Stuttgart.

Although the summer school officially ended there, around 15–20 of us stayed on for a write shop, continuing the momentum by working on the learning papers that will share insights from FOSTER’s experiences so far.

All in all, it was an intense experience where many ideas were exchanged and relationships were formed and deepened.
