Enacting Local Transformation in the Agri-Food System: Our New Course in Action  [02.09.24]

Our new module, Enacting Local Transformation in the Agri-Food System, empowers students to drive positive change in the food system through hands-on projects and collaboration with University-related initiatives.

We are excited to announce that preparations for our new module, Enacting Local Transformation in the Agri-Food System, are in full swing. This course is designed to engage students directly with the vibrant network of actors in and around the University who are committed to shaping a more sustainable and equitable food system.

Throughout the module, students will not only learn about the complexities of the agri-food system but will also take an active role in transforming it. By developing and implementing their own projects, students will work to promote tangible change, contributing to the University’s ecosystem in meaningful ways. One of our goals is to influence what is often referred to as the "hidden curriculum"—the spaces and experiences that are not explicitly part of formal teaching but nonetheless shape students’ learning. For example, the FRESH garden is a space where students can acquire practical gardening skills, connecting theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience.

This module is a key component of the TREE Project, a collaborative initiative that was co-initiated by students passionate about food system change. Through this course, we aim not only to empower students to become change-makers but also to give visibility and support to the various student groups and initiatives working towards a more just and sustainable agri-food system.

By highlighting and strengthening these efforts, we hope to create lasting positive impacts within the University and beyond, contributing to the broader movement for transformation in the agri-food system
